In the far future, a Neo-Egyptian empire - based on the Ancient Egypt of old - claws itself back from the edge of ruin. Most of the empire has been lost to invaders and barbarians, and the Egyptians have to wage a relentless, and merciless, war to reclaim their lost planets. Through it all, the spectre of their old gods lurk - unseen by most, and all too real to some.
A note on terminology: the ushabti - a 21st Dynasty spelling variant of the older shabti - were servant figures that carried out the tasks required of the deceased in the underworld. The term has relevance in some of the tales below.
